Turkish Airlines repurchased 305 thousand nominal THYAO shares for 100.5 million TL on 18 February 2026 within the scope of its 9 billion TL share buyback programme.
Buyback Process Accelerates at THYAO
Turkish Airlines (THYAO) carried out a new buyback transaction on 18 February 2026 on Borsa İstanbul within the scope of the share buyback programme approved at the General Assembly dated 21 May 2025.
THYAO repurchased shares with a total nominal value of 305,000 TL in the price range of 329.00 TL – 330.25 TL per share (weighted average 329.57 TL) for approximately 100.5 million TL.
With this transaction, the total nominal value of repurchased shares reached 6,960,244 TL, corresponding to 0.504366% of the company’s capital.
Framework of the Programme
- Maximum share ratio: 1.7% of capital (23,460,000 TL nominal)
- Total fund: 9 billion TL
- Duration: 3 years from the General Assembly authorisation (2025–2028)
The THYAO management has the authority not to initiate or to suspend the programme if market conditions are deemed unfavourable.
Limited Financial Impact
The allocated 9 billion TL fund corresponds to approximately 0.6% of total assets as of 31 December 2024. Therefore, the programme is not expected to create significant pressure on the financial structure.
In the previous buyback programme (2023–2025), shares with a nominal value of 5,774,544 TL were repurchased at an average price of 159.7 TL, and these shares are still being held.
Circuit Breaker During Transactions
During the transactions on 18 February 2026, a circuit breaker was triggered for THYAO.E shares. Continuous trading was suspended, a single-price order collection process was initiated, and trading resumed after matching.
What Does It Mean for the Market?
While global demand in the aviation sector continues its strong course, THY’s share buyback move stands out as a capital management tool supporting stock performance.
In particular:
- Creating a buffer against sharp downward movements in the share price
- Increasing investor confidence
- Encouraging long-term holding
- Creating resources for potential employee share plans
- These strategic objectives drew attention.
How the THYAO buyback programme will continue in terms of price levels and intensity in the coming period will be closely linked to both balance-sheet strength and the global aviation environment.
