Another New International Connection Opens at Bremen Airport
Freebird Airlines Europe operated its first flight to Bremen Airport, launching the Heraklion route. The Bremen–Crete services, introduced in cooperation with TUI, will operate twice weekly and provide a new connection from Northern Germany to the Greek islands.
With its first landing at Bremen Airport, Freebird Airlines Europe expanded its operational network into Northern Germany. Following the inaugural flight and a short ground time of approximately 90 minutes, the aircraft departed fully booked for Heraklion, Crete.
The new route will be operated regularly twice a week, on Mondays and Fridays, between Bremen and Heraklion on behalf of TUI Group.
Tourism Demand Shapes New Routes
Bremen Airport management states that the Crete route responds to the growing holiday demand, particularly during the summer season. The Greek islands have long been among the strongest holiday destinations for German travellers, and this new connection further diversifies travel options departing from Northern Germany.
Airport CEO Dr. Marc Cezanne stated that flight capacity to Crete has increased significantly this year, describing Freebird Airlines Europe’s entry into the region as an important step in terms of operational diversity.
Freebird: Growth Strategy Across the European Network
Freebird Airlines Europe Sales Manager Derya Kaya Bozay noted that the Bremen route represents a strategic expansion point in the company’s European operations. It was emphasised that Greece remains a strong demand market for German travellers, while Bremen holds an important position as a departure point in Northern Germany.
A Period of Competition and Flexibility in the Charter Market
The summer season in the European aviation market stands out as one of the busiest periods for charter airlines. Agreements with tour operators increase load factors while also providing an operational model that minimises risks.
The Bremen–Heraklion route is also drawing attention as a typical example of this model. The fact that flights are operating fully booked demonstrates that demand for holiday destinations remains strong.
A New Alternative on the Northern Germany–Aegean Corridor
The new connection makes access to the Greek islands easier, especially for passengers living in Germany’s northern states. Crete is considered one of the strategic destinations for European airlines thanks to both its tourism diversity and year-round visitor potential.
