Flights from Istanbul Airport to Guangzhou, China, have commenced. Operated by China Southern Airlines, these flights will be scheduled three times a week. This new route is expected to increase air traffic between Turkey and China, strengthening tourism and trade relations between the two countries.
Istanbul Airport, in collaboration with major Chinese airlines such as China Southern, Air China, China Eastern, and Sichuan Airlines, offers scheduled flights to six Chinese cities (Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Taipei, Hong Kong). These partnerships will provide Chinese tourists and businesspeople with easier access to Istanbul.
In 2023, İGA Istanbul Airport hosted 255,000 Chinese passengers, marking a significant achievement. Airport officials have set a goal to reach pre-pandemic levels of 426,000 Chinese passengers in 2024. The long-term goal is to welcome 1 million Chinese tourists annually.
This new flight route will positively impact both Turkey’s tourism sector and trade. Increased time spent by Chinese tourists in Istanbul and their exploration of Turkey will enhance cultural and economic ties between the two countries.
