Finnair Aircraft Collides with Ground Vehicle on Apron at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport
A Finnair ATR72-500 operated by Nordic Regional Airlines collided with a mobile ground support vehicle on the apron at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport on Saturday morning. The aircraft, registered OH-ATE and scheduled to operate flight AY1175 to Gdansk, was evacuated safely with no injuries reported among passengers or crew.
The collision caused significant damage to the aircraft’s propeller and engine section. Thanks to the swift and professional response of the airport’s emergency teams, the incident was quickly brought under control. Passengers were escorted safely back to the terminal, and the flight had to be rescheduled.
Operations Continued Without Interruption
The ATR72-500 turboprop is a reliable model frequently used by Finnair for short-haul European and domestic routes. Despite the collision, other operations at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport were unaffected, and the flight schedule continued as normal.
Investigation Launched
The Finnish Safety Investigation Authority (OTKES) has initiated a formal investigation into the incident. The inquiry aims to determine the root causes of the collision and prevent similar occurrences in the future. The investigation will thoroughly examine crew and ground staff communications, operational procedures, equipment maintenance, and adherence to safety regulations.
