Dublin Airport’s Terminal 2 was evacuated after a suspicious bag was detected during security screening. Following inspections, authorities confirmed there was “no danger,” and operations quickly returned to normal.
Terminal 2 of Dublin Airport, located in Ireland’s capital, was urgently evacuated at midday after a suspicious item was flagged during security screening. After further checks, the terminal was given the “all-clear” and passengers were allowed back inside.
Airport operator DAA stressed that passenger and staff safety is always the top priority, noting that flight operations were expected to resume normal service within 30 minutes.
Evacuation and Security Measures
During the evacuation, hundreds of passengers were directed to external assembly points, causing heavy traffic around the airport. Footage shared on social media showed large crowds gathering outside the terminal.
According to the Irish Examiner, the Defence Forces’ Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit, the Special Detective Unit, and the Irish police (gardaí) were deployed to examine the bag. It was confirmed that the owner had been identified, though the investigation remains ongoing.
Short-Term Flight Disruptions
DAA said some flights could face minor delays, though services to destinations including Boston, Manchester, Donegal and San Francisco continued as scheduled.
Meanwhile, some European airports reported software issues affecting airline check-in and boarding systems, which also had a minor impact on Dublin and Cork airports. Several airlines were forced to process passengers manually.
