Emirates has temporarily suspended Airbus A380 operations on two long-haul routes from Dubai International Airport (DXB): Václav Havel Airport Prague (PRG) in the Czech Republic and Glasgow International Airport (GLA) in Scotland. The changes are evident when comparing the carrier’s third-quarter (Q3) 2025 Airbus A380 network with its scheduled Q3 2026 operation. While both destinations remain part of Emirates’ network, they are currently being served by smaller aircraft before the superjumbo returns later this year.
The move reflects Emirates’ ongoing seasonal fleet deployment strategy. According to the airline’s current schedules, both cities will regain daily Airbus A380 service from October 1, with Prague also receiving Emirates’ latest high-capacity three-class A380 later in October. The temporary suspension leaves Emirates operating a slightly smaller European A380 network throughout the peak summer schedule.
Two European Destinations Lose The Superjumbo
Comparing Emirates’ Airbus A380 schedules between Q3 2025 and Q3 2026 shows only two destinations have temporarily disappeared from the airline’s superjumbo network: Prague and Glasgow. Both routes continue to be served by Emirates, but passengers traveling during July through September 2026 will not find the Airbus A380 operating these flights. Instead, the airline has redeployed the aircraft to markets with stronger seasonal demand.
The suspension is only temporary. Emirates is scheduled to restore daily A380 operations to both cities from October 1, coinciding with the beginning of the northern hemisphere winter schedule. Prague will initially receive the airline’s four-class, 487-seat Airbus A380 before transitioning to the new three-class, 569-seat configuration from October 25. Glasgow’s service will resume with Emirates’ 519-seat four-class aircraft featuring First Class throughout the winter schedule.

A Seasonal Adjustment Rather Than A Network Retreat
The comparison between Emirates’ Q3 2025 and Q3 2026 schedules shows remarkably little change across the airline’s global Airbus A380 operation. Despite ongoing fleet optimization, almost every destination that previously received the superjumbo continues to do so. Prague and Glasgow stand out as the only long-haul destinations temporarily removed from the aircraft’s summer deployment.
This highlights the flexibility Emirates has developed with its mixed fleet of Airbus A380s and Boeing 777s. The airline routinely adjusts aircraft types according to seasonal demand, ensuring that capacity better matches passenger traffic throughout the year. During periods when demand softens in certain markets, the Boeing 777 can provide similar connectivity while reducing operating costs.
The return dates also indicate Emirates expects demand to strengthen as winter approaches. October traditionally marks the beginning of a busy travel period for Dubai, with cooler temperatures attracting leisure visitors while business travel also increases following the summer holiday season. Restoring the Airbus A380 allows Emirates to add substantial seat capacity without increasing flight frequencies.

Emirates Continues Modernizing Its A380 Fleet
The Prague schedule also reflects Emirates’ broader Airbus A380 cabin refurbishment program. From October 25, the Czech capital is due to receive the airline’s newer 569-seat three-class A380, replacing the smaller 487-seat four-class version introduced earlier in the month. The higher-density layout enables Emirates to carry more passengers while offering its latest Premium Economy cabin.
Meanwhile, Glasgow will retain one of Emirates’ premium-focused 519-seat Airbus A380s equipped with first class, business class, premium economy, and economy cabins. The aircraft remains one of the largest passenger jets regularly serving Scotland and continues to provide significantly more capacity than the Boeing 777 used during the temporary suspension.
Although Prague and Glasgow currently stand out as the only destinations removed from Emirates’ Q3 Airbus A380 schedule, the changes appear entirely seasonal. With both routes already scheduled to regain daily superjumbo service in October, the airline’s flagship aircraft remains central to its long-haul strategy and continues to operate one of the world’s largest Airbus A380 networks.
