Embraer Establishes a Production Base in India

Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer has signed a strategic partnership agreement with India’s Mahindra Group for the development and production of the C-390 Millennium transport aircraft in India. Here are the details…

Brazil-based aircraft manufacturer Embraer (EMBR3.SA) has signed a strategic partnership agreement with India’s Mahindra Group as part of its goal to expand its activities in the defence and security sectors. The agreement covers the development, production, and support operations of the C-390 Millennium military transport aircraft in India.

This collaboration builds upon the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in 2024 and has been expanded to include joint marketing, industrialisation, and the goal of transforming India into a regional aerospace hub.

Embraer stated:

“Our long-term goal is to make India a production and support centre for the C-390 Millennium aircraft, serving both local and regional needs.”

Under the agreement, Embraer and Mahindra will explore joint opportunities in India for production, assembly lines, supply chain, maintenance, repair, and operational support activities.

The announcement coincided with the opening of Embraer’s national office in New Delhi. The inauguration ceremony was attended by senior executives from both companies, along with officials from the Brazilian and Indian governments.

Brazilian Vice President Geraldo Alckmin, who attended the ceremony, stated:

“The new office lays a strong foundation for Brazil’s future defence and industrial projects in India.”

The C-390 Millennium, known for its high payload capacity, advanced avionics, and multi-mission capability, is being evaluated by the Indian Air Force under its Medium Transport Aircraft (MTA) programme.

This strategic partnership aligns with India’s “Make in India” initiative, aiming to strengthen local manufacturing and technology transfer within the country’s aerospace industry.
