St. Petersburg Pulkovo Airport Brought to a Standstill by Drone Strike
St. Petersburg’s critical transport hub, Pulkovo Airport, was forced to suspend operations for a period of time due to drone attacks.
Flights Halted, Passengers Affected
According to reports, as a result of the attacks, the airport’s arrivals and departures were completely suspended for several hours. Around 100 flights faced disruptions; some experienced severe delays, while several international services were cancelled outright. The incident caused a major disruption, affecting not only passengers but the wider aviation system as well.
Authorities Confirm the Attack
Leningrad Region Governor Aleksandr Drozdenko confirmed in a statement that several drones had been shot down by air defence systems. However, the impact of the disruption extended well beyond the airport itself.
Infrastructure and Communication Outages
Local news outlet Strana reported that residents of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region experienced interruptions in internet and mobile communication services. This suggests the attack also affected regional infrastructure.
