Wizz Air Reopens Tuzla Base and Launches 9 New European Routes

Wizz Air will deploy two aircraft at Tuzla Airport and launch flights to nine new destinations. The new routes include Hamburg, Beauvais, Cologne, Malmö, Gothenburg, Berlin, Larnaca, Maastricht, and Hahn.

Current and New Network

With this expansion, Wizz Air will extend its Tuzla-based flight network to include Basel, Memmingen, Vienna, and Dortmund. Four of the new routes will begin with the deployment of the first Airbus A321neo in December 2025, while the second A321neo will add five more destinations to the network from the end of March 2026.

Subsidy and Support Model

This expansion is part of the airline subsidies for which Wizz Air was the sole applicant. The Tuzla Canton Government allocated €615,000 in subsidies for 2025, with annual funding rising to €1 million for 2026–2028. Under the agreement, Wizz Air will receive €6 per passenger on the new routes.

Executive Statements

Almir Žilić, Tuzla Canton Minister of Trade, Tourism, and Transport, said, “This shows that our support model works and that Wizz Air’s return will help us achieve our strategic goals.”

Roland Tischner, Wizz Air Hungary CEO, added:
“We are happy to return to Tuzla after two years. We will reopen the base in December, deploy two aircraft, and maintain a permanent team and crew at the airport.”

Aviation History in Tuzla

Wizz Air started flights from Tuzla in 2013 and became the first airline to open a low-cost base in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2015. Tuzla Airport served 174,861 passengers from January to July 2025. This represents a 75.3% increase compared to the same period last year but a 59.6% decrease compared to 2023, when the Wizz Air base was operational.

Tuzla also sees flights operated by Pegasus Airlines and AJet.
