A significant step has been taken to strengthen cooperation in the field of civil aviation between Türkiye and the People’s Republic of China. Following discussions between the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and the Civil Aviation Authority of China, a new memorandum of understanding has been signed.
Under this agreement, the parties agreed to increase the number of weekly passenger flight rights from 21 to 49. This marks the first capacity expansion in 15 years and represents a historic development in air traffic between Türkiye and China.
Three New Destinations in China for Turkish Carriers
As part of the new agreement, Turkish airlines have obtained the right to operate scheduled flights to the Chinese cities of Chengdu, Xi’an and Ürümqi. This development is set to significantly expand the commercial and touristic flight network between the two countries.
A statement on the official website of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation reads as follows:
“The new destinations in China for Turkish carriers – Chengdu, Xi’an and Ürümqi – will enhance the Turkish aviation sector’s access to the Far East and pave the way for new cooperation opportunities.”
A New Era for Bilateral Flights Begins
It was reported that the meeting took place in Beijing, the capital of China, between the respective delegations. The talks are seen as a strategic move by both Türkiye and China to increase capacity, integrate new destinations and develop passenger transport opportunities in the aviation sector.
