The national jet trainer aircraft HÜRJET successfully completed cold weather and high-altitude tests at minus 21 degrees in Erzurum. The serial production process has accelerated.

The national jet trainer aircraft HÜRJET, one of the milestones of Turkish aviation history, has successfully completed tests carried out in Erzurum under cold weather and high-altitude conditions reaching minus 21 degrees. Having passed the critical tests, HÜRJET has taken another important step on the path to serial production and full operational capability.

HÜRJET Proved Its Strength in Harsh Winter Conditions

Developed by Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAŞ) under the coordination of the Presidency of Defence Industries, the HÜRJET jet trainer aircraft was tested in Erzurum under intense winter conditions as part of cold weather tests.

According to the information received, two prototypes of HÜRJET were taken to Erzurum to verify cold weather and high-altitude performance. The tests were successfully completed at air temperatures reaching minus 21 degrees.

High-Altitude and Cold Weather Performance Verified

The test process was not limited to ground tests only. Thanks to the opportunities offered by Erzurum’s geographical structure, HÜRJET’s high-altitude performance was also examined in detail. During the flight tests carried out after the ground tests, it was observed that the aircraft’s engine and avionics systems operated with high efficiency despite the harsh weather conditions.

Within the scope of the test activity, HÜRJET’s cold weather durability and high-altitude capability were successfully certified.

Proven Ready for Missions in Harsh Climates

Testing HÜRJET in the freezing cold of Erzurum demonstrated that the aircraft can operate not only under ideal conditions but also in some of the world’s harshest climates. With these tests, it was confirmed that the systems functioned without freezing or performance loss in both ground operations and aerial manoeuvres.

The successful completion of this process by two different prototypes was considered a concrete indication of TUSAŞ’s engineering and testing capability.

400 Sorties Completed, Serial Production Process Accelerated

As part of its test and development activities, TUSAŞ has carried out approximately 400 sorties with HÜRJET to date. The Spain export contract signed following the first order, along with expected new demands, has accelerated preparations for serial production.

The company aims to produce 3 HÜRJET aircraft per month through a supplier network to be established in line with the emerging demand and potential.

Multi-Role Design for Modern Air Forces

With its single-engine and tandem cockpit configuration, HÜRJET was designed to perform missions such as:

  • Transition training for combat readiness,
  • Air patrol,
  • Aerobatic display aircraft

HÜRJET is expected to play a critical role in modern fighter aircraft training.
