Recent increases in unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) activity in Denmark have raised serious security concerns in the country. For the second time in three days, an airport was closed due to a drone threat.
Aalborg Airport Temporarily Closed
Aalborg Airport in the northern part of the country was temporarily closed after an unauthorized drone flight was detected. During the incident, some aircraft were diverted to Kastrup Airport in the capital, Copenhagen.
At the same time, UAV activity was reported at Esbjerg, Sønderborg, and Skrydstrup airports, but no closures occurred at these facilities.
Denmark’s Defence Minister Troels Lund Poulsen stated that a “professional actor” was behind the drones, describing the incidents as a hybrid attack. The police have not yet obtained clear information about the source of the UAVs.
Russian Aircraft Trigger Alarm in Alaska
Meanwhile, a similar tension occurred off the coast of Alaska. The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) announced that U.S. fighter jets scrambled after four Russian military aircraft approached the area.
Officials noted that the Russian aircraft were flying in international airspace, but such flights challenge the security balance in the region.
Rising Global Security Concerns
The developments in Denmark and Alaska demonstrate that tensions involving drones and military aircraft are becoming an increasingly critical threat to air security and civil aviation. Analysts warn that such incidents may become more frequent in the future.
