French aviation giant Dassault Aviation announced that it has formed a strategic partnership with Harmattan AI in order to accelerate the integration of controlled autonomy and artificial intelligence technologies into combat aviation.
According to a statement released by the company on Monday, Dassault Aviation participated in Harmattan AI’s USD 200 million Series B investment round as part of the collaboration. The partnership is intended to play a critical role in integrating the embedded artificial intelligence solutions developed by Harmattan AI into Dassault Aviation’s next-generation air combat systems.
Within this framework, the use of AI-supported systems in particular in the Rafale F5 and Unmanned Combat Aerial System (UCAS) projects is planned to enhance the autonomous control capabilities of unmanned aerial vehicles.
It was reported that the funds to be obtained from the investment round will be used to expand AI-enabled missions into new operational domains, broaden the product portfolio to cover different defence areas, and accelerate the industrial-scale production of intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR), unmanned aerial vehicle interception and electronic warfare platforms.
Meanwhile, the development was also seen to have a positive impact on the markets. Dassault Aviation shares closed the trading day on Friday on the Paris Stock Exchange up 5.68 per cent.
