Recently, the surge in cyber attacks worldwide has significantly impacted Turkey’s aviation sector. Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, made important statements on the matter.
Minister Uraloğlu highlighted the serious issues in the aviation sector caused by global software system outages. He stated, “There are navigation systems that manage aircraft. Occasionally, a cyber attack can cause a pilot traveling over Istanbul to think they are over Baku, Azerbaijan. So, there is definitely a problem here. We are working intensively on this issue. All state institutions are involved. We certainly have a Plan B and alternatives,” he said.
Solutions Through Domestic Software and Satellite Systems
Minister Uraloğlu emphasized that Turkey’s recently developed domestic satellites and software systems can resolve such issues. He noted that thanks to the investments in Turkey’s software infrastructure, the impact of these cyber attacks has been minimized.
