British police evacuated Terminal 4 at Heathrow Airport after a suspected hazardous substance alarm. During searches, CS spray was found.
According to Sky News, a 57-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possessing an irritant gas and causing a public disturbance. While carrying CS gas is illegal in the UK, it is legally permitted in some European countries (such as Germany).
Injured Passengers Treated
Police confirmed the incident was not terror-related, while around 20 passengers were treated by medical teams. The injuries are believed to be directly linked to the substance found.
Terminal Reopened
Terminal 4, which serves both European and long-haul destinations, reopened later the same evening. Flight disruptions caused by the incident were reported to be “manageable.”
Photos showed crowds of passengers waiting outside the terminal during security checks.
