As part of the investigation, which is being conducted by the Brindisi Public Prosecutor’s Office, the testimonies of seven individuals have been collected so far. The production facilities of the companies have been inspected, and approximately 6,000 aircraft parts have been seized. Expert reports have revealed that some of the parts have significant deficiencies in terms of static and stress resistance.
It was specifically noted that the parts used in the 44th and 46th production sectors of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner could directly impact flight safety. Allegedly, these components were made from pure titanium instead of the titanium alloy typically used in aircraft structures, and the aluminum alloys differed from the expected standards.
Media reports have also highlighted that this investigation is linked to a separate one completed in 2021, which found that aviation companies in Brindisi had supplied non-compliant components to the Leonardo-Aerostrutture company.
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner is widely used by leading airlines for long-haul flights. This development regarding critical part supply has raised concerns within the aviation sector, and more details are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses.
