C919 Aircraft Completes Its First Overseas Commercial Flight

A China Eastern Airlines C919 passenger aircraft successfully completed its first overseas commercial charter flight on Saturday, operating a round-trip service between Shanghai and Hong Kong.

The aircraft departed from Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport to Hong Kong International Airport on Saturday morning and was expected to carry over 100 young talents from Hong Kong on its return journey the same day.

China’s Domestic Passenger Aircraft C919 in Commercial Operations

The sixth C919 passenger aircraft delivered globally joined the China Eastern Airlines fleet on Tuesday, marking an acceleration in the commercial operation of China’s domestically developed large passenger aircraft. This milestone occurred a year after the C919’s inaugural commercial flight. China aims to secure a share of the global civil aviation market, currently dominated by Boeing and Airbus, with its indigenous passenger aircraft.

First Year’s Success

As of Monday, China Eastern Airlines’ five C919 passenger aircraft have completed over 2,100 flights, amassing more than 6,000 flight hours and carrying approximately 300,000 passengers during their first year of commercial operations.
