A transport aircraft belonging to the Japan Self-Defense Forces, departing from Iruma Air Base in Saitama prefecture, made an emergency landing at Niigata Airport around 17:00 local time. The C2 type transport aircraft performed an unusual maneuver around 17:17 and landed due to the sudden opening of the cockpit window. There were no injuries reported among the crew. However, the runway was closed to air traffic for approximately 20 minutes following the landing. The SDF announced that a detailed investigation into the incident has been initiated.
Concerns regarding aviation accidents within the SDF are escalating. Last month, two military helicopters belonging to the SDF collided and crashed during an exercise in the Pacific Ocean. At least one person was killed, and seven others were reported missing in this accident. Additionally, yesterday, another patrol aircraft belonging to the SDF veered off the runway while landing at Shimousa Air Base. No injuries were reported in this incident either.
