British Airways has decided to suspend all flights to Israel until March 2025 due to escalating tensions. The British government has declared Tel Aviv as an “amber” zone, advising against all non-essential travel.
Flight Cancellations and Refund Process
British Airways, which is closely monitoring the situation in the Middle East, has announced that it will offer full refunds to passengers who have purchased tickets to Israel. The airline does not operate flights to Lebanon.
Similar Steps by Other Airlines
British Airways is the latest airline to suspend flights to Israel. Low-cost carrier Wizz Air has canceled all flights until January 2025, while Delta and United Airlines have also suspended their flights until at least the end of March.
Travel Advisory from EASA
The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) had advised European airlines in September to avoid flying to Israel following the assassination of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah. Although the advisory has since been lifted, many airlines remain reluctant to resume their previous routes.
Israel’s Sole Flight Provider
With Delta and United suspending their flights to Israel, El Al now remains the only airline offering direct flights between the U.S. and Israel.
Flight Disruptions and Security Measures
Recently, takeoffs and landings at Ben Gurion Airport were briefly halted. Israel’s Air Force suspended flights for less than half an hour after shooting down five drones over the Mediterranean.
