British Airways is set to return to Tanzania after a 13-year absence, with the United Kingdom’s flag carrier announcing new flights from London to Kilimanjaro, one of the country’s main gateways for international tourists.
The airline said that it will operate three flights a week from London Gatwick to Kilimanjaro International Airport, with the service continuing to Zanzibar.
The new route is scheduled to begin in late May 2027, marking British Airways’ return to Tanzania after it ended its London-Dar es Salaam service 13 years ago.
Kilimanjaro International Airport serves as a gateway to some of Tanzania’s best-known tourist attractions, including the Serengeti National Park, home to the Great Migration, one of the world’s most renowned wildlife spectacles.
Zanzibar, another destination on the new route, is known for its white-sand beaches, marine life and rich history and cultural heritage.
British Airways also announced plans to increase the frequency of flights on its London-Cape Town route, with additional services due to begin next March.
The return to Tanzania comes as the country continues to promote its tourism sector and strengthen international air links to its major destinations.
