Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced that the black box and voice recorders of the private jet carrying a Libyan delegation, which crashed in Ankara’s Haymana district, will be examined in the United Kingdom. Minister Uraloğlu stated that both devices were damaged in the crash and noted that there are only a limited number of countries worldwide capable of conducting examinations at this level.
The aircraft carrying Libyan Chief of the General Staff Lieutenant General Muhammed Ali Al-Haddad and his delegation, who were visiting Türkiye at the invitation of Chief of the General Staff General Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu, crashed on 23 December in the Kesikkavak area of Haymana district in Ankara. The investigation into the accident is continuing on multiple fronts.
The investigation is being conducted on multiple fronts
Within the scope of the investigation carried out by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, in which four public prosecutors are assigned under the coordination of a deputy chief public prosecutor, the area where the aircraft crashed was secured and placed under protection. The black box and other wreckage parts, which are among the most critical pieces of evidence in the accident, were taken into custody.
Autopsies and toxicology tests were conducted to determine the exact causes of death of the crew members who lost their lives in the crash. In addition, pilots’ sleep patterns, dietary habits, alcohol or medication use, and psychological conditions prior to the accident were also examined.
Technical examinations and camera recordings included in the file
The prosecution requested reports from technical experts to determine whether the aircraft was airworthy. The responsibilities and possible faults of the personnel who carried out the aircraft’s most recent maintenance are also being evaluated as part of the investigation.
As part of the investigation, airport camera recordings were seized, and all radio communications between the control tower and the aircraft were included in the case file. The compliance of spare parts installed during maintenance with standards will also be subject to technical examination.
To assess fuel-related possibilities, samples were taken from the fuel tanker and the aircraft wreckage; local weather reports at the time of the accident were also added to the investigation file. It was stated that if the accident is determined to have resulted from a structural failure or design flaw, the chain of responsibility will be expanded.
Minister Uraloğlu: “The black box and voice recorder are damaged”
Speaking at the AK Party Group Meeting, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu made the following statement regarding the black box process:
“Both the black box and the voice recorders there were damaged. There are four countries in the world that can resolve this. It has been decided that the examination will be carried out in one of these countries, accompanied by our colleagues, the Libyan side, and the country of the aircraft manufacturer. This process is being conducted by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office.”
Confirming definitively that the examination will be carried out in the United Kingdom, Uraloğlu stated that a Turkish delegation will travel to the UK in the coming days and noted that the process may take a month or longer.
