Bayraktar TB2 wages war against forest fires in Antalya

The General Directorate of Forestry of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has deployed an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) in Gazipaşa to enhance the early detection and intervention of forest fires in Antalya. The UAV, introduced into service in 2022, operates at an altitude of 23,000 feet, monitoring forest areas across Antalya to detect fires.

Advanced Detection Capabilities

Equipped with a thermal system, the UAV can detect potential fires earlier and provide real-time coordinates to firefighting teams, speeding up intervention. The UAV in Gazipaşa will monitor the forests around the clock, transmitting images and information about fires to the firefighting crews.

Comprehensive Firefighting Efforts

The General Directorate of Forestry is strengthening its air and ground firefighting capabilities, indicating its preparedness for the 2024 fire season in Antalya. The teams will combat fires with 9 helicopters, 6 planes, 113 fire trucks, and 955 firefighters, working more effectively with the UAV’s support.

Enhanced Surveillance and Response

Antalya Regional Forest Director Zafer Derince stated that the UAV in Gazipaşa takes off early in the morning and conducts fire surveillance throughout Antalya during the day. The UAV can show heat intensity and the progression of the fire, allowing teams to respond more effectively to the fires.
