In 2025, 31 people lost their lives in 21 aircraft accidents in Türkiye. The highest number of accidents in the last 10 years was recorded.
Highest Number of Accidents in 10 Years
According to data from the Main Search and Rescue Coordination Center under the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, a total of 108 aircraft accidents occurred in Türkiye between 2016 and 2025. In these accidents, 117 people lost their lives, 768 people were rescued, and 44 people were injured.
The year 2025 reached the highest level of the last 10 years with 21 accidents. In these accidents:

Major Incidents of 2025
One of the biggest aviation incidents last year was the crash of a Turkish Air Force military transport aircraft in Georgian airspace after taking off from Azerbaijan. Twenty personnel were martyred in the accident.
On December 23, an aircraft departing from Ankara for Tripoli crashed in the Haymana district 19 minutes after takeoff. Eight people lost their lives in the accident, including Libyan Chief of General Staff General Muhammed Ali Ahmed Al Haddad.
Increase Worldwide as Well
The year 2025 was also recorded as a period when aviation accidents increased globally.
- In the accident in India on June 12, 229 passengers and 12 crew members died; 19 more people lost their lives in the area where the aircraft crashed.
- On January 29, 20 people died in a plane crash in South Sudan.
- On the same day in the USA, 67 people died when a passenger plane and a helicopter collided mid-air.
- On July 24, 49 people lost their lives in a plane crash in Russia’s Amur region.

Accidents That Remained in Memory
Among past accidents in Türkiye that caused many fatalities are the 1963 mid-air collision over Ankara Ulus that resulted in 104 deaths, the 1976 crash into the Taurus Mountains that killed 154 people, and the 2007 Isparta crash in which 57 people lost their lives.
In 2021, eight people died when a firefighting aircraft responding to a fire crashed in Kahramanmaraş, and in 2024, six soldiers were martyred when one military helicopter crashed after its rotor blades contacted another military helicopter in Isparta.
Safety Debates Back on the Agenda
The increasing number of accidents in both Türkiye and worldwide in 2025 has brought aviation safety, maintenance processes, air traffic management, and inspection mechanisms back into discussion.
Experts emphasized the importance of further strengthening safety standards in parallel with increasing air traffic and operational intensity.
