The “Analysis of the Transport Legislation of Turkey in the Process of Harmonisation with the EU Acquis” Project, abbreviated as “ATLAS,” with the Directorate General for European Union and Foreign Relations of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure as its beneficiary, commenced on January 10, 2022.
This project aims to contribute to our country’s economic and social development policies and integration with the EU by establishing a competitive, environmentally friendly, and sustainable transportation system in line with EU acquis. It seeks to facilitate the harmonization process of EU acquis in the transport sector by developing the legal infrastructure.
Within the scope of the project, a legislative inventory for all transport sectors has been prepared. Under the third activity of the project, titled “Evaluation of Legal Harmonisation in the Transport Sector,” themes such as market access and competition, safety and security, social conditions, environment, and climate change were addressed.
A comparison of EU and national legislation was conducted, gap analysis was performed, and efforts to fill these gaps were completed.
At this stage, a two-day workshop was held at Bilkent Hotel in Ankara on May 30-31, 2024, with the aim of finalizing the outputs of the reviewed legislative analysis by sharing them with representatives of the private sector and civil society organizations and receiving their opinions and evaluations.
For this project, the synergetic working environment provided by the valuable representatives of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, representatives of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, airline and airport operators, Atlas Project Managers, esteemed university faculty members who are experts in their fields, the Aircraft Technicians Association (UTED), and the Turkish Air Traffic Controllers Association made significant contributions to the evaluation of the project results.
