As of August 1, ANA Holdings has officially acquired 100% of Nippon Cargo Airlines (NCA), becoming Japan’s largest integrated passenger and cargo air transportation company. This strategic acquisition, completed through a share transfer with Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha, significantly strengthens ANA’s global logistics network and expands its cargo operations.
Under the new structure, NCA’s cargo routes between Japan, Europe, and the United States will be integrated with ANA’s existing international passenger and cargo services. This synergy will enable the ANA Group to operate one of the most comprehensive air cargo networks in Asia.
ANA’s fleet of Boeing 767 and 777 freighters will be bolstered by eight Boeing 747-8F aircraft from NCA. This consolidation will elevate ANA Group to 14th place globally in terms of cargo volume, according to 2024 data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
The acquisition aims to enhance supply chain resilience, boost profitability, and further strengthen Japan’s air transportation infrastructure ahead of capacity expansions at Narita Airport. Full financial integration of NCA into the ANA Group is scheduled for completion in the second quarter of fiscal year 2025.
Commenting on the deal, ANA Holdings President and CEO Koji Shibata stated, “This merger will combine ANA’s global network with NCA’s expertise in air cargo, allowing us to offer more flexible and valuable logistics solutions to our customers.”
