An F-16 fighter jet that took off from the 9th Main Jet Base Command in Balıkesir crashed during a mission flight. One pilot was killed in the incident, and a comprehensive investigation has been launched.
The F-16 fighter jet, which had taken off from the 9th Main Jet Base in Balıkesir, crashed during a mission flight. The pilot was killed. An official statement was issued by the Ministry of National Defence (MoND) and the Governorship of Balıkesir.
Midnight F-16 Crash in Balıkesir
An F-16 fighter jet belonging to the fleet of the 9th Main Jet Base Command in Balıkesir crashed during a mission flight late at night. The incident occurred at around 00:50.
İsmail Ustaoğlu confirmed the accident in a statement shared on his social media account and announced that one pilot had been killed.
In his statement, Governor Ustaoğlu said:
“Our pilot has been martyred. I pray for Allah’s mercy upon our martyr and extend my condolences to his family. May our nation’s head be held high.”
Official Statement from the Ministry of National Defence
The Ministry of National Defence (MoND) also issued a statement regarding the crash via its official social media accounts.
The ministry’s statement included the following:
“Radio contact and radar track with our F-16 aircraft, which took off from the 9th Main Jet Base Command in Balıkesir, were lost as of 00:56. As a result of the search and rescue operations immediately initiated, it was determined that our aircraft had crashed, and the wreckage was reached. Our pilot has been martyred. The cause of the accident will be determined following the investigations to be carried out by the accident investigation team.”
Investigation Launched
The cause of the crash is being thoroughly investigated, including the possibility of technical malfunction, meteorological conditions, or other factors. The definitive cause of the incident will be shared with the public after the accident investigation team completes its report.
While the Turkish Armed Forces and relevant authorities are closely monitoring the process, Türkiye is mourning the loss of another fallen hero.
