Alaska Airlines announced on September 18, 2024, that it has successfully completed the acquisition of Hawaiian Airlines for $1.9 billion. The merger aims to create a larger service network and enhance operational efficiency for the two airlines.
The merged company will seek a single operating certificate from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to allow Alaska and Hawaiian to operate as one carrier with an integrated service system. However, during the initial phase of the merger, the two airlines will continue to operate as separate carriers. This means that their websites, reservation systems, and loyalty programs will remain independent.
Alaska has announced that passengers will be able to retain miles earned in both airlines’ loyalty programs. Additionally, Alaska Lounge members will benefit from lounge access when flying with Hawaiian. By the end of this month, members of both loyalty programs will be able to transfer miles between programs and purchase tickets from either airline.
The two loyalty programs will be merged into a single system later next year, with Alaska promising to share details of this process as it unfolds.
Hawaiian Airlines operates flights from Las Vegas to Honolulu and Kahului, while Alaska Airlines serves many cities on the West Coast and Anchorage. Alaska also offers seasonal flights to Puerto Vallarta and Los Cabos, Mexico.
