Airbus SE (AIR) has announced that it has successfully completed the transaction for the acquisition of industrial assets belonging to Spirit AeroSystems in order to strengthen its strategic production capacity for commercial aircraft programs.
Florent Massou, Executive Vice President of Operations at Airbus Commercial Aircraft, said the following regarding the process:
“This milestone represents a special moment for all of us at Airbus. By taking over activities that are of critical importance to our commercial aircraft programs, we are opening a new chapter in our industrial operations. We are proud to welcome more than 4,000 new colleagues to our team.”
New Production Assets Incorporated Into Airbus
As part of the acquisition, Airbus has taken ownership of the following Spirit AeroSystems facilities that serve the commercial aircraft segment:
- Kinston, North Carolina (USA): A350 fuselage sections will now operate under the name Airbus Aerosystems Kinston.
- Saint-Nazaire, France: A350 fuselage section production has joined Airbus under the name Airbus Atlantic Cadréan.
- Casablanca, Morocco: The facility producing A321 and A220 components has been restructured as Airbus Atlantic Maroc Aero.
- Belfast, Northern Ireland: The facility responsible for manufacturing A220 wings and centre fuselage sections has been renamed Airbus Belfast.
- Prestwick, Scotland: The facility producing A320 and A350 wing components will operate under Prestwick Aerosystems.
- Wichita (USA) – Saint-Eloi (France): A220 pylons will be transferred from Wichita to Saint-Eloi.
Financial Details
As part of the acquisition, Airbus will receive compensation of 439 million USD. This amount will be subject to typical post-closing price adjustments and audit processes. In addition, the company is receiving further financial support to meet its obligations under the acquisition agreements.
