Air Traffic in Türkiye Breaks Record: 187 Million Passengers

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced that 187 million passengers used air transport in the first nine months of 2025. Across Türkiye, an average of 686,000 people travelled by air daily.

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced that the number of passengers using air transport in the first nine months of 2025 reached 187,397,678. Minister Uraloğlu stated, “Thus, in the first nine months of the year, an average of 686,000 people travelled by air every day.”

11.7% Increase in Aircraft Traffic

Evaluating the September 2025 data from the General Directorate of State Airports Authority (DHMİ), Uraloğlu noted that 92,573 aircraft movements took place on domestic routes and 94,799 on international routes throughout the month. Including overflights, the total number of aircraft movements was 239,335. This figure represents an 11.7% increase compared to the same period in 2024.

24.7 Million Passengers Carried in September

In September, domestic passenger traffic totalled 9,547,571, while international passenger traffic reached 15,205,768. Including direct transit passengers, a total of 24,769,907 passengers chose air travel. This represents a 10.5% increase compared to the same month last year.

During the same period, 91,460 tonnes of cargo were handled on domestic routes and 406,058 tonnes on international routes, amounting to a total of 497,517 tonnes.

1.88 Million Aircraft Movements in the First Nine Months of the Year

Between January and September, aircraft movements totalled 746,659 on domestic routes and 711,652 on international routes. Including overflights, total aircraft traffic reached 1,888,370, marking a 7.6% increase compared to the same period last year.

An Average of 686,000 Passengers Chose Air Travel Daily

During the same period, 76,584,284 passengers were served on domestic flights and 110,699,739 on international flights, bringing the total number of passengers to 187,397,678. This corresponds to a 5.3% increase in total passenger traffic compared to the same period last year.

Uraloğlu emphasised, “Air transport is one of the most important indicators reflecting Türkiye’s economic dynamism and mobility.”

Freight Transport Exceeds 3.8 Million Tonnes

In the first nine months of 2025, the total amount of cargo transported through airports reached 3,844,139 tonnes, comprising 712,615 tonnes on domestic routes and 3,131,525 tonnes on international routes.
