At Frankfurt Airport (FRA), Germany’s largest airport, flight cancellations and delays are being experienced due to heavy snowfall and freezing conditions. Authorities warned that disruptions could increase if weather conditions worsen.
Severe snowfall and icing, which have intensified across Germany since the middle of last week, continue to negatively affect air transportation. Operations at Frankfurt Airport, the country’s busiest airport, have been disrupted due to winter conditions.
In a statement by airport operator Fraport Group, it was reported that 98 of the approximately 1,000 flights scheduled for today were cancelled due to heavy snowfall and icing on the runways. It was stated that the number of cancellations and delays could increase as the day progresses depending on weather conditions.
Passenger Warning: Monitor Flight Status
Due to harsh winter conditions, passengers were warned that they may encounter unexpected delays and disruptions. Frankfurt Airport authorities advised passengers to regularly check their flight information and to arrive at the airport earlier than usual.
Officials noted that runway clearing and de-icing operations are continuing uninterrupted, but that weather conditions continue to put pressure on operational capacity.
