The General Authority of Civil Aviation and Air Transport of Syria has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on technical cooperation with its counterpart institution in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, with the aim of strengthening partnership and sharing experience in the field of civil aviation. The signing ceremony was held at the headquarters of the Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation in Riyadh.
High-Level Participation at the Signing Ceremony
The memorandum of understanding was signed by Omar El-Husari, Director General of the Syrian General Authority of Civil Aviation, and Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al-Duaylic, President of the Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation. A large number of department heads and senior officials from both institutions attended the ceremony.
El-Husari: “A Strategic Step”
In statements to the Syrian official news agency SANA, Omar El-Husari emphasised that the signed memorandum of understanding is of strategic importance for the development of Syria’s civil aviation sector. El-Husari stated that the agreement demonstrates the commitment of both sides to exchanging expertise, sharing technical knowledge and deepening institutional cooperation.
Cooperation in Aviation Security, Training and Technical Systems
It was stated that the memorandum of understanding offers broad cooperation opportunities in critical areas such as:
- Aviation security,
- Training and personnel qualification,
- Development of technical systems and operational procedures.
This cooperation is intended to contribute to raising performance levels in civil aviation and enhancing efficiency and reliability standards.
Emphasis on Benefiting from Regional Experience
El-Husari noted that the signing of the memorandum is part of the vision of the Syrian General Authority of Civil Aviation to benefit from leading experiences in the region and to make use of Saudi Arabia’s advanced technical expertise. He added that, in the next phase, the provisions of the memorandum will be transformed into concrete joint working programmes, supporting the sustainable development of the sector.
Targeting Compliance with International Standards
The agreement is regarded as an important part of Syria’s efforts to strengthen regional and international cooperation, raise safety and efficiency standards, and modernise civil aviation systems in line with international norms.
