İGA’s New Routes to Boost Transit Passenger Traffic

İGA Istanbul Airport has added four more airline companies to its network as of June 2026. With the new flights, Istanbul’s connections with Central Asia, Iran, and Iraq are becoming even stronger.

As four new airline companies launch scheduled passenger operations as of June 2026, Istanbul’s role as an air transportation hub for Central Asia, the Middle East, and Iran has become even stronger.

With partnerships involving more than 100 airlines and access to over 340 destinations, İGA Istanbul Airport continues to increase its global connectivity capacity through newly added routes.

4 New Airlines Join İGA’s Flight Network

As of June, Fly Khiva, Varesh Airlines, Fly Kish, and Basra Airlines have started or announced scheduled passenger operations through İGA Istanbul Airport.

The new operations are expected to further strengthen Istanbul’s strategic position in regional air transportation while also contributing significantly to trade, tourism, and transit passenger traffic.

Fly Khiva Launches Istanbul Flights

Uzbekistan-based Fly Khiva launched direct flights on the Termez (TMJ)-Istanbul route as of May 30.

The flights are operated twice weekly using Boeing 757 aircraft. With this new route, the number of airlines operating from Uzbekistan to İGA Istanbul Airport has risen to five, including Turkish Airlines.

The historic city of Termez has also become one of the newest destinations added to İGA Istanbul Airport’s network.

Opening Ceremony Held at Night

A special welcome ceremony for Fly Khiva’s Istanbul operations was held on the night connecting June 3 to June 4. The ceremony was regarded as one of the symbolic milestones of the airport’s international expansion.

Capacity Increasing on the Tehran-Istanbul Route

Iran-based Varesh Airlines also launched scheduled passenger flights on the Tehran (THR)-Istanbul route as of June 3, 2026.

With flights operating every day of the week, İGA Istanbul Airport’s connection with Iran has been significantly strengthened.

Fly Kish Also Launches Istanbul Operations

Another Iranian airline, Fly Kish, launched its scheduled Tehran-Istanbul flights on June 3.

The operations, planned twice weekly, are increasing passenger capacity between the two countries while also offering a new alternative for regional air traffic.

Basra Airlines Expands with Baghdad-Istanbul Route

Iraq-based Basra Airlines will launch operations on the Baghdad (BGW)-Istanbul route as of June 12.

The new flights, planned five times weekly, are expected to further strengthen İGA Istanbul Airport’s connections with Iraq.

Industry representatives believe the new route will contribute not only to passenger traffic but also significantly to regional trade and tourism.

İGA Expands Its Global Connectivity Power

With new airline partnerships, İGA Istanbul Airport continues to strengthen its position as a critical transit hub between Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and Africa.

Experts state that thanks to Istanbul’s strategic geographical advantage and İGA’s high-capacity infrastructure, additional international routes could also be introduced in the near future.
