The Syrian Civil Aviation Authority has announced that the number of airlines resuming flights to Damascus International Airport has reached 15. The country is focusing on re-establishing its international aviation connections.
According to data from the Syrian Civil Aviation Authority, the number of airlines that have resumed flights to Damascus International Airport has risen to 15. Following the political transformation that took place in the country last December, the restructuring process in the air transport sector has accelerated.
As reported by the SANA news agency, Syrian aviation authorities have been implementing a comprehensive strategy in recent months to enhance international connectivity and revitalise the air transport sector.
A Flight Network Extending from the Middle East to Europe
Currently, airlines operating flights to Damascus include carriers from countries such as the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, Qatar, Jordan, Kuwait, and Romania. This development is seen as a concrete indicator of Syria’s efforts to re-establish itself as a hub in regional air traffic.
Damascus International Airport, the largest airport in Syria, also serves as a connection point to domestic destinations such as Aleppo in the north.
Noticeable Increase in Cargo Traffic
The Syrian Civil Aviation Authority also released cargo data for September. Accordingly, the amount of cargo exported through Damascus Airport was recorded at 82,986 tonnes, while the amount imported was 34,039 tonnes.
SANA’s report stated, “This increase reflects the efforts to revitalise Syria’s aviation sector and reintegrate it with global markets.”
International Cooperation Strengthens
The Syrian Civil Aviation Authority highlighted the vital role of foreign carriers in commercial and humanitarian operations. The statement emphasised that partnerships with international airlines would contribute to the development of the country’s passenger services and logistics infrastructure.
The aviation authority noted that Syria aims to reintegrate into the global aviation network during this process, with compliance with international standards remaining a top priority.
