The US Department of Defense has announced a $10 billion plan to modernize the fighter jets at air bases in Japan to enhance security and deterrence in the region.

The US Department of Defense announced that the fighter jets at Japan’s Kadena and Misawa air bases will be modernized. Transition from F-15C/D to F-15EX
At Kadena Air Base in Okinawa Prefecture, the current 48 F-15C/D fighter jets will be replaced with 36 new-generation F-15EX fighter jets. The F-15EX is notable for its advanced avionics, increased payload capacity, and long-range strike capability. This modernization will further strengthen the US air power in Japan and increase the level of deterrence in the region.
Reinforcing Misawa with F-35A
At Misawa Air Base in Aomori Prefecture, 36 F-16 fighter jets will be replaced with 48 F-35A fighter jets. The F-35A, a fifth-generation multi-role fighter jet, stands out with its low radar signature and advanced sensor systems. With this change, Misawa Air Base will have greater tactical aircraft capacity and capability.
Security and Stability in the Indo-Pacific Region
