US and UK Launch Airstrikes on Hodeidah Airport in Yemen

The claim that the US and the UK conducted an airstrike on Hodeidah Airport in Yemen was announced by the Houthis. According to the el-Mesire television channel affiliated with the Houthis, the airstrike carried out by the US and the UK targeted the International Hodeidah Airport. However, detailed information about the attack was not provided, and neither the US nor the UK has made any statements yet.

Despite having a runway length of 3 kilometers for both domestic and international flights, Hodeidah Airport has been unusable for about 10 years due to conflicts between the Yemeni government and the Houthis.

In addition to these developments, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced the shooting down of a Houthi unmanned aerial vehicle in the Gulf of Aden the day before yesterday.

Supported by Iran, the Houthis in Yemen have been seizing commercial ships owned by Israeli companies off the coast of Yemen in response to Israel’s attacks in Gaza. They have also been launching attacks using drones and missiles on some of these ships.

Following these actions by the Houthis, many shipping companies decided to suspend their voyages in the Red Sea. This led the US to announce the formation of a multinational naval task force called the “Guardian of Welfare Operation” on December 18, 2023, with the participation of a group of countries, citing the endangerment of maritime trade security.

After the US and the UK’s attacks on Houthi-controlled areas, the Houthis announced that they would target all ships belonging to these two countries. However, there has been no statement from the US and the UK regarding this claim yet.
