A significant step has been taken towards the modernization of the E7-T Peace Eagle aircraft in the Turkish Air Force inventory. A feasibility study was conducted with the participation of ASELSAN, HAVELSAN, and THY TECHNIC, and details of this study were included in ASELSAN’s 2023 activity report. The report stated:
“Within the scope of the Peace Eagle – Airborne Early Warning and Control Aircraft Modernization, a feasibility study was carried out with the participation of ASELSAN, HAVELSAN, and THY TECHNIC under the coordination of TUSAŞ to modernize the E7-T AEW&C System in the Turkish Air Force inventory to meet operational needs. The aim is to address obsolescence in software and hardware in the areas to be modernized.”
Additionally, the report announced the delivery of the national ARES-2A System for the E7-T AEW&C aircraft. Currently, the E7-T Peace Eagle aircraft use the Electronic Support System (ESM) from the Israeli Elbit company, and with this delivery, it is likely that they will be equipped with the national ARES-2A System.
E7-T Peace Eagle Project
The E7-T Peace Eagle Project was initiated through a contract signed between the then Undersecretariat for Defense Industries (SSM) and Boeing. The contract for the procurement of B737-700 type Airborne Early Warning and Control Aircraft (AEW&C) was enacted on July 23, 2003. Under the Peace Eagle Program, Turkey purchased four B737 type AEW&C aircraft and one Ground Support System from the American Boeing company.
As part of the program, a subcontractor agreement covering “Modification, System Installation, Control, Test, and Delivery” was signed between TUSAŞ and Boeing on January 28, 2004. The first aircraft’s processes were carried out at Boeing’s Seattle facilities, while the processes for the other three aircraft were conducted at TUSAŞ facilities.
