The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) carried out a drone (UAV) attack on the Saky Air Base in Russia-annexed Crimea on the night of August 4. It was announced that five fighter jets and an aviation ammunition depot were damaged or destroyed in the operation.
According to SBU sources, one Su-30SM fighter jet was completely destroyed, while another Su-30SM was damaged. Additionally, three Su-24 bombers were directly hit. The attack was organized by the SBU Special Operations Center “A” and carried out as part of Ukraine’s broader strategy to weaken Russian military capabilities in the Black Sea region.
The Saky Air Base holds critical importance for Russia in terms of air patrols, intelligence surveillance, and long-range strikes. The targeted aircraft are reportedly used actively in Russia’s regular attacks on Ukrainian territory.
Ukraine has recently increased its attacks, particularly targeting military air bases. In this context, the “Spider Web Operation” carried out on June 1 was said to have damaged 41 Russian aircraft across four different air bases.
This latest strike on the Saky Base shows that Ukraine continues its policy of systematically targeting Russian military presence in the Black Sea using UAV capabilities. Previously, numerous Russian warships were destroyed by Ukrainian drones, forcing Moscow to withdraw its fleet from Crimea.
