TUSAŞ Expands into Malaysia: Strategic Deepening in Asia-Pacific

TUSAŞ is deepening defence industry cooperation with Malaysia. ANKA and HÜRJET projects, the Defence Services Asia 2026 exhibition, and the Asia-Pacific strategy are detailed in the news.

A New Cooperation Message in the Defence Industry with ANKA and HÜRJET Projects

TUSAŞ, one of Türkiye’s leading defence and aerospace companies, is preparing to expand its defence industry cooperation with Malaysia in line with its goal of increasing its presence in the Asia-Pacific market. At the Defence Services Asia 2026 exhibition held in Kuala Lumpur, the company presented both its current projects and its future strategic plans to the international public.

A New Era in HÜRJET and UAV Projects

TUSAŞ General Manager Mehmet Demiroğlu made important statements regarding defence projects carried out with Malaysia. Demiroğlu stated that cooperation efforts are ongoing within the scope of both unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and the HÜRJET jet trainer aircraft programme.

Reminding that the project involving the delivery of three ANKA UAVs to the Royal Malaysian Air Force had been successfully completed, Demiroğlu emphasised that this success serves as a strong reference for new projects.

Malaysia Office Becomes a Strategic Hub

Drawing attention to TUSAŞ’s organisational structure in Malaysia, Demiroğlu noted that the Kuala Lumpur office plays a critical role in defence industry relations between the two countries. Operating with approximately 120 employees, the centre stands out as an important base in terms of both engineering capacity and human resource development.

Regional Strategy: A Strengthening Türkiye in Asia-Pacific

TUSAŞ management emphasises that Malaysia is an important defence industry partner for Türkiye and states that cooperation in the region lays the groundwork for long-term projects. This approach aligns with Türkiye’s strategy of expanding its defence exports not only through products but also through technology transfer and joint production models.

According to defence industry experts, this Malaysia-focused move by TUSAŞ is one of the concrete indicators of Türkiye’s increasing geopolitical and technological influence in the Asia-Pacific region.

Not Just Sales, but an Ecosystem-Building Move

TUSAŞ’s expansion into Malaysia points to a strategy that goes beyond traditional defence exports. While the process that began with ANKA UAVs extends to more complex platforms such as HÜRJET, the company also aims to establish local engineering capacity and a joint production infrastructure.

It has become a strong example of Türkiye’s transition in recent years from a “product sales” model to a “strategic partnership and technology sharing” model in the defence industry.
