Turkish Airlines (THY) announced that it has mutually cancelled a total of 61 domestic and eastern route flights due to the risk of heavy snowfall and icing expected to intensify on the last day of the year. The harsh winter conditions have led to disruptions in air transport.
It was reported that the decision, taken in line with warnings from the Meteorological Service, was implemented to ensure flight safety. Due to adverse weather conditions intensifying in eastern and central parts of Anatolia, THY made mandatory changes to its flight planning.
“Flight Safety Is Our Priority”
The statement on the matter was made by Turkish Airlines’ Head of Communications, Yahya Üstün, via the social media platform X. Üstün emphasised that the cancellation decision was taken entirely for safety reasons.
In his post, Üstün stated:
“Flight safety is our priority. A total of 61 of our flights dated 31 December have been mutually cancelled.” It was noted that the cancellations were implemented due to the severe winter conditions expected in the eastern and central regions of the country.
Warning to Passengers: “Check Before Coming to the Airport”
In order to prevent congestion and inconvenience at airports, THY called on passengers to check the status of their flights before coming to the airport.
Passengers affected by the cancelled flights were reminded to follow Turkish Airlines’ official website and mobile application for ticket changes, refund procedures and up-to-date flight information.
Authorities also stated that the number of cancelled flights could increase if the intensity of the snowfall rises.
