After the intervention against the Sumud Flotilla, which attempted to break Israel’s blockade of Gaza, 137 people who had been detained were brought to Istanbul on a special flight organised by Turkish Airlines (THY). Among those detained were 36 Turkish citizens.
Special Flight by Turkish Airlines for the Activists
Turkish Airlines operated a non-scheduled special flight for the release of the detained activists. The aircraft landed at Istanbul Airport at 15:40 (local time). According to Flightradar records, the Boeing 737 aircraft, flight number TK6921, took off from Ramon Airport near Eilat in southern Israel. On board were 101 activists from various countries, including 36 Turkish citizens.
Prosecutor’s Office Launches Investigation
After their arrival in Istanbul, the activists underwent medical checks, and it was learned that their statements would be taken as part of an investigation launched by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office. Following Israel’s intervention in the flotilla, the Prosecutor’s Office initiated an investigation against Israel on charges of “deprivation of liberty,” “hijacking or unlawful seizure of a means of transport,” and “damage to property.”
Following Israel’s intervention against the Sumud Flotilla, which sought to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza, Türkiye safely repatriated its citizens and international activists.
