Turkey is reaping the rewards of its strides in the defense sector. Most recently, Turkey’s indigenous fighter aircraft KAAN successfully completed its second flight. Having conducted its maiden flight on February 21, 2024, KAAN successfully completed its second flight early this morning.
Temel Kotil, CEO of TUSAŞ, announced that the indigenous 5th-generation fighter aircraft KAAN will be delivered to the air force in 2028.
KAAN emerged from the hangar for the first time on March 17, 2023, and underwent preparations by Turkish engineers over an 11-month period to take to the skies. It successfully completed the tests required for its maiden flight.
The design and manufacturing of the indigenous fighter aircraft KAAN were carried out using domestic resources. With a wingspan of 14 meters, a height of 6 meters, and a length of 21 meters, KAAN features a single-seat cockpit. Its twin engines, high maneuverability, low radar visibility, internal weapons carriage capability, and electronic warfare capability are notable features.
KAAN will elevate Turkey to become one of the five countries capable of producing 5th-generation aircraft. With its high air combat range and supersonic precision strike capabilities, KAAN will provide strategic attack capabilities against all types of air-to-air and air-to-ground targets.
Moreover, KAAN will be able to collaborate with unmanned aerial vehicles, airborne early warning and control platforms, and other planned assets. Capable of conducting air-to-air combat with next-generation weapons and delivering precision strikes at supersonic speeds from internal weapon bays, KAAN will provide augmented combat power with the support of artificial intelligence and neural networks.
