Domestic Fighter Jet KAAN Moves Forward: Integrated Logistic Support Systems to be Completed in September

Turkey’s 5th generation fighter jet KAAN is steadily passing critical milestones. Having already taken to the skies twice, the national combat aircraft is expected to complete the critical design review phase of its Integrated Logistic Support (ILS) systems in September 2025.

The ILS phase covers a wide process including technical data for maintenance and repair, spare parts supply, stock management, and the training of maintenance personnel. Ground support equipment required to sustain the aircraft’s operational capabilities will also be evaluated within this scope.

Engine Integration to Begin in 2032

The integration of the indigenous TF35000 engine developed for KAAN is planned to start in 2032, while early engine testing is scheduled for 2026.

To Replace F-16s

With this project, a new-generation national combat aircraft will replace the F-16s that are planned to be gradually phased out of the Turkish Air Force inventory starting in the 2030s. The KAAN project also aims to strengthen human resources and technical infrastructure.

Designed as a 5th generation fighter jet, KAAN is set to deliver air superiority with features such as:

• Extended air-to-air combat range

• Precision strike capability from internal weapon bays at supersonic speeds

• AI-supported combat power

Success in Test Flights

During its maiden flight on 21 February 2024, KAAN stayed airborne for 13 minutes, reaching an altitude of 8,000 feet and a speed of 230 knots (approx. 426 km/h).

On 6 May 2024, it successfully completed its second test flight.
