Supersonic Aircraft Concept Powered by Nuclear Energy

The Hyper Sting, envisioned by Barcelona-based designer Oscar Viñals, represents a concept for an aircraft that could travel from London to New York in just 80 minutes. This aircraft achieves speeds of 4,287 km/h (2,664 mph), more than three times the speed of sound, even surpassing the Concorde’s speed by nearly double.

Features and Design

The Hyper Sting boasts a spacious interior measuring 328ft (100m) in length, capable of accommodating 170 passengers. Additionally, with a wingspan of 169ft (52m), it surpasses the Concorde’s 85ft (26m) wingspan. The design emphasizes speed and power, while the fuselage shape controls airflow to enhance aerodynamic performance.

Operation with Nuclear Energy and Advanced Technology

The aircraft will be powered by two ramjet engines, drawing power from a small yet powerful nuclear reactor to achieve supersonic speeds. However, this innovative system remains a theoretical concept for now, as the required cold fusion nuclear reactor is not yet available. This system, capable of Mach 3.5 speeds, could redefine supersonic flights.

Future Expectations and Challenges

According to Viñals, supersonic flights will make a comeback but will take time to materialize. Such projects are expected to have production dates beyond 2030 and face high costs.
