Serkan Kaptan, CEO of TAV Airports, has been appointed as the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Latvia, responsible for the provinces of Istanbul, Edirne, Tekirdağ, and Kırklareli. During a ceremony for the honorary consul position, Kaptan received his consular certificate from Baiba Braze, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia. The event, held in Istanbul, was attended by high-ranking representatives from Latvia and invited guests from Turkey.
In her speech, Minister Braze emphasized that the friendly relations between Turkey and Latvia will reach their 100th anniversary in 2025. She noted that the cooperation between the two countries is based on three main pillars: defense, economy, and humanitarian relations. Braze expressed that Kaptan’s new role would contribute to these ties. She also highlighted the importance of education and tourism in building strong connections between people, and affirmed that Turkey is a strategic ally for Latvia.
Serkan Kaptan stated that he was honored to take on the role of honorary consul, adding, “There are long-standing strong relations between Turkey and Latvia. As TAV Airports, we have been actively operating at Riga Airport since 2009. The trade volume between the two countries amounts to approximately 700 million dollars annually, and we will continue to contribute to these relations.” Kaptan also noted that, as the President of the DEİK Turkey-Latvia Business Council, he would continue strengthening ties between the business communities of both countries.
Kaptan emphasized Latvia’s cultural and natural richness, noting that it is one of the key centers of the Baltic region. He expressed his aim to further enhance the economic, cultural, and touristic relations between Turkey and Latvia through his role as honorary consul.
