Continuing its tradition of upholding national values, İGA Istanbul Airport is commemorating July 15th, the Democracy and National Unity Day, with special events this year. A special exhibition, in collaboration with the July 15th Association, will showcase the honorable struggle and victory of the Turkish nation. Additionally, the Air Traffic Control Tower will be illuminated in red and white to reflect the colors of the Turkish flag on July 15th.
As one of the world’s most significant global transfer hubs, İGA Istanbul Airport continues to honor the Democracy and National Unity Day on July 15th with special events that symbolize the Turkish nation’s commitment to democracy and its fight for independence. The exhibition, organized annually with the July 15th Association, features unique works that depict how the Turkish nation stood up for democracy and resisted oppression, reflecting their love for their homeland and nation. The Air Traffic Control Tower at İGA Istanbul Airport will be specially illuminated in the colors of the Turkish flag to symbolize the glorious democratic victory of the Turkish nation.
During the opening speech of the exhibition, İGA Istanbul Airport CEO Selahattin Bilgen emphasized the importance of sharing the democratic epic written by the Turkish nation on July 15th with the world. He stated: “As always, we are proud to host the July 15th exhibition at İGA Istanbul Airport. As the İGA Family, we continue our commitment to our country’s values, democracy, and independence. We organize various carefully prepared events on July 15th, the Democracy and National Unity Day, to keep the spirit of national struggle and independence alive in our collective memory. Our exhibition is a testament to our social responsibility, our loyalty to our country and nation, and, of course, our gratitude to our martyrs. Therefore, it is very special. On this occasion, I respectfully and gratefully commemorate all our veterans and martyrs, especially Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, who did not hesitate to sacrifice their lives for our country’s independence.”
İGA Istanbul Airport CEO Selahattin Bilgen:
“That night, our nation stood against the coup plotters who attempted to undermine our democracy and independence. All of Turkey became one heart. By resisting the traitors, we protected our nation’s independence and indivisible unity. This brave and honorable stance remains in our memories as an example of a struggle rarely seen in history. Those who filled the streets and squares on that day, disregarding their lives, destroyed those who targeted our national independence and the existence of our country. The stance displayed on July 15th was a reflection of the spirit of national struggle. Thus, we showed not only the traitors among us but the entire world that the consciousness of democracy, freedom, and independence is a characteristic of the Turkish nation.”

İsmail Hakkı Turunç, President of the July 15th Association, also spoke at the exhibition opening:
“In the treacherous attempt, our nation, our country, and our democracy were targeted. On July 15th, Turkey faced not only a coup attempt but also a series of terrorist acts and an invasion attempt. On the night and morning of July 15th, the power of our nation surpassed the power of tanks, helicopters, and planes. On July 15th, we once again showed friends and foes alike how united we are when it comes to the unity of the homeland, the future of the nation, and the independence of the state. Yes, no matter what they do, they will not be able to divide our nation, dismember our country, or prevent our crescent and star flag from waving in the skies. A strong and great Turkey will continue to be the hope of the oppressed.”
The exhibition was also attended by Istanbul Airport Civil Administration Authority Associate Professor Dr. İlker Haktankaçmaz.
