Sabiha Gökçen Airport has completed its preparations to combat snow and ice ahead of the winter season. Flight safety will be ensured 24/7 with 72 vehicles and a team of 125 personnel.
Sabiha Gökçen International Airport Authority (HEAŞ) has completed all preparations to ensure uninterrupted flight safety under winter conditions. Through efforts carried out as part of snow and ice control, a state of operational readiness has been established at the airport on a 24-hour basis.
Training and Drills Completed Ahead of the Winter Season
Ahead of the approaching winter season, field training sessions and practical drills aimed at snow and ice control were successfully completed. All teams assigned to operations underwent comprehensive training to enable rapid and effective response under adverse weather conditions.
Operational Readiness Across a 3 Million Square Metre Area
Winter operations at Sabiha Gökçen Airport were planned across an area of approximately 3 million square metres, covering 2 runways, 8 aprons, 56 taxiways, as well as vehicle service roads and parking areas. Infrastructure and operational preparations for snow and ice control were completed across all these areas.
72 Specially Equipped Vehicles, 125 Experienced Personnel
To maintain flight safety at the highest level under winter conditions, 72 specially equipped vehicles and a team of 125 experienced personnel will be on duty. Snow and ice control on runways, taxiways and aprons will be carried out in accordance with international standards, using de-icing vehicles, snow removal systems, friction measurement equipment and support vehicles.
Officials stated that, thanks to the measures taken, the aim is to ensure that air traffic is maintained safely and without interruption throughout the winter season.
