Record Growth at Ercan Airport: Passenger Numbers Increased by 21.51%!

Ercan Airport, the largest airport in Cyprus, experienced significant growth in the first nine months of 2023 and 2024. According to data released by T&T Airport Operations, the number of passengers increased by 21.51%, while the number of flight operations grew by 13.27% during this period.

Rising Passenger Numbers

In the first nine months of 2023, Ercan Airport served 2,859,120 passengers, and this figure rose to 3,474,099 in the same period of 2024. This increase highlights the airport’s growing popularity for both international and domestic flights.

Increase in Flight Operations

The increase in flight operations is also notable. The number of flights rose from 19,375 in 2023 to 21,946 in 2024, representing a 13.27% increase. This reflects the airport’s expanding flight capacity and heightened interest from travelers.

August Statistics

In particular, August 2024 saw a peak in passenger traffic. Ercan Airport welcomed 439,950 passengers in August 2024, compared to 385,223 in August 2023, an increase of 54,727 passengers. This indicates the busy nature of the summer season.

High Demand During the Summer

During the summer months (May-September), 1,844,115 passengers used Ercan Airport in 2023, with this figure rising to 2,088,583 in 2024. This increase is attributed to the higher number of students and tourists choosing Ercan Airport for travel.

Economic Contribution and Revenue Sharing

The rise in passenger numbers also affected the airport’s revenue-sharing contributions to the state. T&T Airport Operations, which pays a portion of its revenue along with VAT to the government quarterly, significantly boosted state finances this year due to the increased traffic.

High Number of Flights

In the January-September period of 2023, Ercan Airport served 19,375 flights, a figure that rose to 21,946 in 2024. In July 2023, the airport handled 2,487 flights, while in July 2024, it reached its highest number, serving 2,644 flights.

With the rise in passenger and flight numbers, Ercan Airport continues to make a significant contribution to the Cypriot economy, strengthening both local and international transportation networks.
