A Ramadan Atmosphere Extending from Nostalgia to Digital

IGA Istanbul Airport has combined traditional hospitality with the possibilities of the digital world through its “Ramadan Festival” and the “Ramadan Village” established within the terminal. Blending cultural heritage with technology and art, the concept transforms the month of Ramadan into an atmosphere experienced on a global scale.

Chosen by Skytrax as the “World’s Most Family-Friendly Airport” in 2025, IGA is offering a festival-like welcome this year. Events designed for passengers arriving from all around the world place the unifying spirit of Ramadan at the centre of the travel experience.

Ramadan Village goes beyond the classical event concept by offering guests a hybrid experience area.

Events awaiting visitors include:

Calligraphy and marbling workshops
Children’s play areas and cartoon screenings
Nostalgic carousel and trampoline areas
Weekly Hacivat–Karagöz shadow plays

Developed with an innovation focus, the Digital Wish Tree (The Tree of Unity) transforms passengers’ wishes into a visual installation.

In the Experience Photobooth area, four different concepts are offered:

Aesthetics of Heritage: Digital marbling and calligraphy textures
City of Sultans: A modern interpretation of Hagia Sophia and nostalgic Istanbul streets
IGA Galaxy: VR-supported journey to the Moon experience
Dream Curtain: Karagöz & Hacivat themed digital gamification

Gastronomy and the Tradition of Sharing

At Ramadan Village, complimentary treats are offered daily between 11:00 and 20:00.

Visitors can experience traditional flavours with modern presentations such as:

The Ramadan Post Office in the International Departures area delivers specially designed postcards written by passengers to destinations around the world via IGA, creating a global bridge of goodwill from Istanbul.

While ney, oud, and qanun performances echo throughout the terminal and enrich the atmosphere, the prize wheel activity, children’s play areas, and artist-led workshops reflect a family-oriented approach.
