Delta Air Lines is continuing its premium expansion at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) with the opening of a new Delta One Lounge, adding another upscale experience for travelers passing through one of the airline’s most important gateways. LAX remains one of Delta’s largest hubs and a critical link for both domestic and international traffic, serving routes across North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific and Latin America.
The new lounge is part of the airline’s premium strategy, though travelers should note an important distinction: this is not the same Delta One Lounge frequent flyers already associate with LAX. Delta’s press release shows its newest opening is a separate Terminal 2 space spanning approximately 4,000 square feet (372 square meters) with seating for 75 guests. While the airline’s larger Terminal 3 Delta One Lounge has become known for features including wellness spaces and an outdoor terrace, the new location has been designed as a smaller and more intimate experience with a stronger emphasis on personalized dining and service.
A Smaller Delta One Lounge Designed Around Personalized Service
At first glance, a 4,000-square-foot (around 372-square-meter) premium lounge may seem modest by airport standards. Some flagship airport lounges stretch well beyond this size, and are designed to move hundreds of travelers through large seating areas, dining spaces, and amenity zones. Delta is taking a different approach to its newest LAX addition, focusing on experience rather than sheer scale.
The Terminal 2 lounge accommodates approximately 75 guests, creating a more controlled environment intended to feel quieter and less crowded than a traditional airport lounge. Delta describes the concept as a “quiet and distinct space”, with concierge-style seating and full table service replacing a more self-directed format. Rather than passengers searching for open seats or standing around buffet stations, the goal is a more curated pre-flight experience.
The distinction matters because LAX now has multiple Delta One-branded spaces that can easily be confused with one another. The original Terminal 3 Delta One Lounge spans roughly 10,000 square feet (929 square meters) and includes amenities such as a terrace overlooking the airfield, wellness areas, and massage features. Megan Humphreys, vice president of Delta Sky Club and Lounge Experience, explained how the new Terminal 2 location positions itself as a separate experience rather than a duplicate of the flagship model.
“With demand for premium travel continuing to rise and our global footprint expanding, we’re thoughtfully looking at every square foot we have — designing every detail with intention and to align with the Delta One experience our customers deserve.”
Food appears to be at the center of the Terminal 2 concept, with the airline describing the lounge as having a focus on all things culinary. Instead of leaning heavily on buffet stations or grab-and-go selections, Delta is emphasizing restaurant-style dining where every seat receives table service, and guests can order directly from an à la carte menu.
Menu offerings include house-made pasta, sushi selections, and premium small plates, while the airline is also incorporating Los Angeles influences into the overall experience. Local partnerships have become a noticeable trend across premium lounges as airlines increasingly attempt to create spaces that feel tied to the surrounding city rather than generic airport environments.
The design extends beyond food itself. Floor-to-ceiling windows overlook the airfield, creating an open atmosphere despite the relatively compact footprint. Delta has also incorporated local artwork and design elements intended to give the lounge a stronger sense of place and provide a more refined environment before departure.
Delta is the official airline partner for the LA 2028 Summer Olympics, which will take place in July 2028.
The lounge opening is only one piece of a much larger project. Delta says that by 2028 it plans to operate four lounge spaces at LAX across Terminals 2 and 3, with a combined footprint of approximately 60,000 square feet (5,574 square meters) and more than 1,000 seats. Plans also include an additional 11,000-square-foot (1,022-square-meter) Sky Club in Terminal 2.
The investment reflects the growing competition among airlines for premium travelers. Airport lounges have increasingly become extensions of the business and first-class experience rather than simply waiting areas with snacks and drinks. Airlines are investing heavily in dining programs, wellness spaces, and personalized services in an effort to differentiate themselves long before passengers board an aircraft.
For travelers, the newest Delta One Lounge at LAX represents another sign of how airlines are redefining the airport experience. Rather than replacing the larger lounge many passengers may already know, the new Delta One Terminal 2 lounge adds a different option, one designed around intimacy, personalized service, and a more curated premium experience.
