Passenger Who Attacked Cabin Supervisor on SunExpress Flight Sent to Prison

On September 15, 2024, Engin Can Özçelik was arrested at Ercan Airport after displaying drunken and aggressive behavior on a SunExpress flight from İzmir to Ercan. Özçelik was taken to court this morning for allegedly assaulting and insulting the cabin crew, as well as engaging in inappropriate conduct.

Police Officer Testifies

During the hearing, police officer Batuhan Ünalan testified that Özçelik’s breath alcohol level was recorded at 277mg, and that he insulted the cabin supervisor by demanding water in a rude manner. Furthermore, he was accused of assaulting the supervisor by grabbing their hand and causing a disturbance in the passenger arrival hall by shouting and flailing his arms.

20-Day Jail Sentence

The police officer also noted that Özçelik had no ties to Northern Cyprus and requested his detention. Judge Nuray Necdet ruled that Özçelik be sent to prison for a period not exceeding 20 days.
